The Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion is a distortion pedal that is designed for electric guitar. Like any pedal, you can certainly use this with other electronic instruments, but since I’ve only used it with guitar, this review will be focused on using it for guitar only. The pedal is generally a simple one, consisting of the standard make up of Boss pedals. It’s got ¼” jacks for input, output, and for a remote (foot switch), which allows you to control which of the two different modes you’d like to be using. It is powered up by either a nine volt battery or power supply, and isn’t rack mountable as it’s a stomp box.

You don’t need to know much or have much experience using pedals to figure out how to use the Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion. It’s got the same make up that you’ll find on most overdrive and distortion pedals, so it will definitely be familiar to many users. These setting controls include those for level, tone, and distortion amount. It also has two different distortion modes to choose from.

While maybe not my number one choice for a distortion pedal, the Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion is still a very solid pedal. It’s something like a bit more versatile Boss DS-1, as the two channels here give it more versatility. In general I’d say that it’s got a creamy and thick sort of distortion sound that I’ve found to be best for getting nice and fat rhythm guitar distortion parts. The two different modes are pretty different however, the first of which I find to be best for rhythm and the second best for leads. The second is a little bit heavier with some more kick to it while the first mode is more subtle. Both are definitely good sounding when used in the right situation.

If you’re looking for a pretty standard distortion pedal that won’t cost you too much money, the Boss DS-2 is a great option worth checking out. It’s definitely got a professional sound that I wouldn’t hesitate to record with if I thought it would work in the situation. The price is great (as always with Boss pedals), as is the build. The Boss DS-2 is a nice little distortion pedal that should last you a long time…
