The Guild F512 is a top tier acoustic 12 string guitar, and is one of the best of its kind that I have had the pleasure of recording with. The guitar isn’t an acoustic/electric, so it doesn’t have any pick ups or setting controls to work with. However, since I have used this for recording only, this wasn’t an issue for me. The guitar has a jumbo style body…

UTILIZATION

Playing the Guild F512 is a really fun thing to do, as the flow is like water. It has a really fluid feeling on the fingers, and is overall an easy instrument to play. I find that a lot of 12 string guitars aren’t all that easy to navigate through, but this is definitely not the case with the F512. The weight and size of the guitar is about average, as I don’t find it hard to hold or keep up.

SOUNDS

Without exaggerating, the sound of the Guild F512 is one of the prettiest that I have heard not only from a 12 string, but from any acoustic guitar in general. It is really the perfect 12 string to record with, as it has both a full bodied tone on the low end, and enough high end to make it sound silky. As I said earlier, not having a pick up isn’t a problem for me as the overall tone quality of the guitar more than makes up for not being able to plug it in. The F512 is definitely in the highest class of sound quality for acoustic guitars.

OVERALL OPINION

Being the beautiful, handcrafted guitar that it is, the Guild F512 will cost you a good amount of change. However, those looking for a high end 12 string guitar probably already understand that they must pay this type of price to get this type of guitar. Setting aside the price, the F512 is just as good if not better than any 12 string guitar that I’ve played before, matched only by the upper end 12 strings that Martin has to offer. If you’re in the market for a 12 string guitar and price isn’t an object, or you’re simply looking for the best 12 string around, do yourself a favor and try out the Guild F512.
