The Memorex DVD+R DL are dual layered blank burnable DVD's for storing media on. These are the blank DVD's that we've got on hand at the studio where I work. We use them mostly for backing up Pro Tools sessions and other data, but of course they can be used for a variety of purposes. There's a total of 8.5 GB of storage available here per disc, almost double the amount on a standard sized DVD. I'll always back up my sessions with an external hard drive, but recently I burnt a full session to seven of the DVD's for an extra back up to give to the artist. Storage media like blank DVD's are as necessary anymore now that hard drives are so cheap, but we still keep them on hand just in case and they do get used pretty often actually. This particular type of DVD+R's aren't the only type that we have, but right now we've got a spindle of them and they're definitely high quality. We don't use cheap DVD's since it's really important to make sure they work well when we do need them. We don't always have the dual layered DVD's, but it makes it easier to keep everything in one place this way, even though they're a bit more expensive and not totally necessary. If you're just doing simple burning I'd probably recommend standard DVD's rather than the dual layered, but it's definitely cool that you can get a bit more space on one disc with these. You can certainly find cheaper DVD's out there, but this is still a good price for dual layered blank DVD+R's. Memorex definitely makes some of the best blank DVD's out there, so even if you don't need to go with these dual layered ones, check out their standard blank DVD's to do the trick for you...
