Made in the USA and assembled in Mexico.

3-piece alder body with very slim satin cellulose varnish.

Maple neck with 20-fret rosewood fingerboard, Standard Vintage Alnico Magnet Jazz Bass pickups.

Standard machine heads (good quality)

4-saddle standard vintage-style bridge

Two volume controls and one tone control.

UTILIZATION

Very pleasant neck (at least more pleasant than my old Precision bass).

Easy upper frets access, good playing comfort and average weight (8.8 lb.). The instrument produces a good sound for rock, funk, reggae and jazz... Everything seems to be possible.

SOUNDS

I play mainly rock, pop rock, reggae and blues as well as jazz sometimes, and the bass perfectly fits my needs. I play with an Ampeg B100R amp and the combination sounds great so I won't need to replace the pickups as I first thought. The bass produces a round sound and strong character I like, and the sustain is very long.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been owning this bass guitar since September 2006 and I'm fully satisfied with it. In spite of what you read in some reviews, I can say the HIGWAY is not a lousy Fender. It's a very good deal! If you're looking for an American bass with a big sound and an affordable price (and the sound becomes even better each year), don't look any further.

Pros: Sound, shape and color (I replaced the white original pickguard with a tortoise one).

Cons: The varnish is perhaps a bit fragile but it contributes to the good sound! Bad pickups grounding (they produce interference when you are near a notebook, TV, etc.).

I had two bass guitars (an Ibanez Musician and a Fender Precision) but the Jazz Bass is my favorite!

Excellent value for money. I don't regret having bought it and I would buy it again without hesitation.
